Mera Peak:
6476m high Mera is the highest trekking peak in Nepal and
for those prepared for the challenges of the trek to and
from its base camp, as well as those of the climb itself,
it ranks among the most rewarding. Flying to Tumlingtar,
we trek in over the Surkje La and the Hinku Valley beyond.
The trail winds among forests of pine and rhododendron in
the remote and uninhabited valley, which leads to Mera
Base Camp. We allow several days for the ascent of Mera,
establishing a high camp on the Mera La, a stunning
viewpoint. The panorama takes in Kanchenjunga, Chamlang
and Makalu to the east, while to the north, Everest, the
unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse/Lhotse ridge
are visible. To the west, Ama Dablam and Cho Oyu complete
what is undoubtedly one of the most glorious views in the
whole of Nepal. The trek out follows the route over the
Zatrwa La to Lukla, from where we fly back to Kathmandu.
The route avoids the difficult and, for porters, often
dangerous Mingbo La traverse.
